During the first year of life, sensory skills undergo significant development, allowing infants to better understand and interact with their environment. Acuity refers to the clarity of vision, and research shows that it improves dramatically in the first year. Color vision begins to develop quite early, with infants gradually becoming capable of discriminating between different colors. Binocular vision, which involves the ability to perceive depth and three-dimensionality by using both eyes together, also develops within the first year as infants learn to coordinate their eye movements.

Auditory discrimination, while important, tends to develop more gradually as infants are exposed to various sounds and linguistic inputs. The ability to discern differences in sounds does improve over time, but the foundational aspects of hearing and distinguishing sounds are primarily established prior to the first year. Therefore, while auditory discrimination is indeed a critical skill, it might not be regarded as one of the primary sensory skills that achieve significant advancement during the first year of life compared to the other options listed.
